Electrostatic Precipitators (ESPs) are highly effective air filtration devices used to remove fine particles such as dust, smoke, and grease from the air. They are commonly used in industrial settings, kitchens, and other environments where air quality is a concern. One of the key components of ESPs is the filter cells, which play a crucial role in trapping and removing these airborne particles. However, to maintain their efficiency and longevity, it is essential to clean these cells regularly.
Over time, the cells in an ESP filter accumulate particles such as dust, grease, and other pollutants. As these particles build up, they can form a thick layer on the collection plates, reducing the efficiency of the electrostatic charge that traps new particles. Regular cleaning ensures that the cells remain free of excessive buildup, allowing the ESP to function at its optimal filtration capacity.
With the increase in grease layer on the plate of cells, it would cause electric-discharge and the yellow light on the display flashes and the device stops working. At this time, the electric field needs to be cleaned.
The cleaning steps are very simple, follow the following steps to complete the cleaning!
- Turn the machine off and then open the overhaul door. There is still be residual current running on the cells. We should use a screwdriver to short-circuit the “cathode” and “anode” of the high and low voltage areas respectively.
- Draw out the cells and the air divider.
- Soak the cells in a tub of hot water(more than 80℃) with NaOH(caustic soda). Proportion for it is 25(hot water):1(caustic soda). The soak time is around 1 hour. If keeps the hot water heated, the soak time can be shortened to half an hour.
- After one hour take cells out and then use a water jet spray the cells to remove the detergent.
- Wipe insulators and make them dry. It is necessary to rinse off the detergent attached to the surface with clean water, and then wipe it dry.
- Pour out remained water in tubes and let the cells dry for an hour then re-insert and turn on ESP filters.
